As a student, you often find yourself short of money because most Swedish students live on grants and loans from the CSN. The amount given from the CSN has since 2007 increased by a few hundred sek, but no it is far from adapted to the actual living costs for students. The basis of the CSN premium is still based upon the calculation of students' living costs made back in 1993, when rents were estimated to be a maximum of 2000-2500 sek/month. This is not the case today, when most rents for student apartments is around 3300-4500 sek/month. Swedish students' unions have jointly worked to raise the amount given by the CSN (primarily an increase in the premium) for many years, and it has resulted in a couple of minor increases since 2007. But the fact remains. Students have comparatively less money to spend, although full-time study is to compare with a full-time job where you as a student are expected to work 40 hrs / week.

JOB ADVERTISEMENTS

In the larger student cities it is often easier to supplement your finances with a job alongside your studies, but here in Skövde it is difficult to get hold of one. The Student Union periodically receive job postings from companies regarding extra jobs, summer jobs and opportunities for thesis projects at a company. These opportunities will be announced on this page. The Student Union is keen on students to  have good living conditions and therefore we organize job fairs and the job network fair Framtid annually in order for students to get a better shot at opportunities for work alongside and/or after studies.

MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNTS AND STUDENT DISCOUNTS

There are also other ways to get some extra money. One of those ways is the discounts that The Student Union negotiates for all its members, but also for the general student discounts for all students at the University of Skövde. With these discounts, you can gain several hundred sek per year by buying at a discount in selected stores. As a member you can gain more than 5,000 sek from the membership discounts that The Student Union have negotiated for you. We want the best possible life for you while studying here in Skövde and we are constantly working to make your student life as good as possible. Therefore, you are welcome to contact us if there are any special eg. cafes, restaurants, shops or gyms that you would like to get a discount from. The third way in which a student can get extra money is to apply for scholarships and grants. You probably know that there are scholarships and grants for research, dissertations, projects and more. The Student Union regularly receives notices on scholarships and those we will be advertising on this page.
